A 20-year-old woman was allegedly shot by her father and her cousin in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior in full public viewokebet, reportedly in front of police officers during a heated argument about her marriage.

City Superintendent of Police Nagendra Singh Sikarwar said that the firing took place on Tuesday night when the local panchayat were trying to mediate the family problem in Gola ka Mandir area in Gwalior.
The victim had earlier posted a video on social media declaring her love for a person named 'Vicky' whom she wanted to marry. She also said that her family was forcing her to marry someone else.
The woman also mentioned about being abused at home and that she fears for life. Reportedly, she said, "I want to marry Vicky. My family initially agreed but later refused. They beat me daily and threaten to kill me. If something happens to me, my family will be responsible."

The reports have also mentioned that After Superintendent Dharmveer Singh and other officers went to the victim's residence and a community panchayat was called to solve the matter.
While the intervention was going on, the victim allegedly refused to stay at home and take help from government run initiatives for women.
In an attempt to talk to his daughter privately, the victim's father took her aside and a heated argument began, following which he allegedly shot her with a country-made firearm, while his nephew Rahul shot her with a pistol.
The CSP informed the media that Rahul escaped, the deceased's father Mahesh Singh Gurjar (45) remained at the spot brandishing the weapon. A police team rushed to the house after getting information and arrested him.
Tanu Gurjar, the victim, was to get married on January 18, but she was not ready to marry the man chosen by her family, he said.
The woman suffered four bullet injuries, he said, adding that a manhunt is on to nab her cousin.
