With the historic victory in the Delhi Elections, the BJP is poised to appoint the next chief minister of the national capital, a decision expected to be made by Monday during the party’s Legislative Party meeting.

According to media reports, the meeting will take place at 3 pm at the Delhi BJP office, where all 48 newly elected BJP MLAs will gather to select their leader, who will then be sworn in as the new chief minister. The announcement follows the declaration of election results on February 8, which saw the BJP secure a commanding win, relegating the AAP to just 22 seats.

The BJP has decisively ended the AAP's decade-long rule in Delhi, securing 48 out of the 70 seats in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. 

In the first match, Haryana thrashed Rajasthan 6-1. Rohit Rana (2nd minute), Sunil Maan (11th), Sahil Ruhal (17th) and Ami Khasa (60th) scored one goal each, while Navraj Singh (7th, 37th) struck a brace for Haryana.

BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok confirmed on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, upon his return from his foreign visit, would oversee a meeting of the BJP parliamentary board to finalise the new chief minister's name. Alok assured, “Delhi’s new CM will be before you,” signalling that the appointment would be made imminently.

The AAP's loss was significant, especially with several key figures, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal,PESO99 official losing in their traditional strongholds. Atishi, the outgoing chief minister, managed to retain her seat in Kalkaji, but the AAP’s performance overall has been seen as a major blow to the party’s influence in Delhi.

For the Congress, the dismal results continued, with the party failing to secure a single seat, marking another step in its decline in the region since losing power in 2013.

As the BJP moves forward with the leadership selection process, speculation is rife about who will take the helm. Several names have emerged as potential candidates for chief minister, including Parvesh Verma, who made headlines by defeating Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency. Other prominent contenders include former Delhi BJP presidents Vijender Gupta and Satish Upadhyay, as well as BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, and Rekha Gupta.

Sources suggest that the national leadership may consider a fresh face to lead the city, with high expectations placed on the new chief minister to fulfil the aspirations of the people. One BJP leader told PTI, “You never know... The national leadership can come up with an altogether fresh face who fits the bill and is capable of discharging the duties as Delhi’s chief minister.”

In line with BJP’s strategy in other states, there is also speculation that the party may choose a relatively lesser-known figure for the top postlodibet, as they have done in the past in various states.
